How often do you find yourself lost in thought, wishing to be elsewhere?

You might be sitting in your kitchen about to eat lunch, yet you’re thinking about something that happened at work yesterday or worrying about what’s going to happen tomorrow.

We do this all the time—it’s called mind-wandering, and it can have positive effects on us and our lives, but it’s not necessarily great for our happiness.

What is Self Awareness? Why developing self-awareness in life is important?

Developing self-awareness in life is a major component of personal growth.

It takes self-awareness to understand where you are, who you are, and what you want.

Self-awareness also leads to emotional maturity. As self-aware people, we’re able to recognize our emotions when they occur, identify their root causes, and move forward with a more appropriate response.

One common way to become more self-aware is through meditation.

Even five minutes spent living in the present can be enough time for us to sit down and get comfortable with our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about ourselves and life in general.

We can then use these observations as fuel for greater insights into ourselves; without them, it’s very difficult for lasting change or learning to take place.

How Can We Live In The Present?

We can never truly predict what life is going to throw at us.

Therefore, we can never fully prepare for everything that life will bring.

Instead, we need to develop an approach that allows us to live, thrive, and even flourish no matter what circumstances may come our way.

To thrive in such uncertain times, we need a set of tools that allow us not only to survive but also to emerge stronger than ever after every challenge we face.

The following five skills are essential for all those who want to learn how to live in the present.

What Is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness means living in the present moment, without judgment.

When you live mindfully, you’re not attached to outcomes and can choose how you want to respond to events.

Mindfulness also involves being kind and compassionate toward yourself and others.

Most importantly, it involves being aware that your thoughts influence your emotions, which influence your actions—and by doing so creating a cycle that is difficult to stop.

Why Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a simple way to master your life and start living in the present more fully.

It’s a direct path to self-awareness and self-mastery that has been practiced by many spiritual gurus.

It’s also a well-known tactic used by athletes and performers, who uses it as part of their warm-up before every show.

Through mindfulness, you can achieve any goal, overcome any obstacle and improve anything you do by bringing more focus and attention to your daily activities.

How Do I Begin My Journey To Mindfulness?

Simply put, mindfulness is about living in the present.

It’s about knowing where you are and who you are and what you’re doing at every moment.

It’s about being aware not only of yourself but your situation, surroundings, relationships, and other people as well.

And if you think that sounds like a tall order, well…you’re right!

Most people don’t even come close to succeeding at it 100%—which is why there are so many self-help books telling us how we should live each day.

Challenges to Overcome

Remaining engaged when a conversation is less than stimulating;

setting your phone down while at a meal;

ending an argument that’s bringing you both down.

As we get older, we learn there are challenges to overcome, and methods to apply.

The practice of developing self-awareness in life plays a major role in mastering life.

In other words, there is a way to be aware, acknowledge any frustrations or challenges that you may have accumulated over time, as well as choose how best to manage them.

By developing self-awareness skills during every phase of our lives – from childhood into adulthood – we can master many things.

With improved self-awareness, and skills come greater understanding and ultimately more control.

Enjoying Life Now

Are you a patient person? If not, developing self-awareness in life can help you work on that skill.

You’ll be able to see past urges and give them time to pass, rather than acting out on them.

An extremely patient person is often able to enjoy life now because they’re thinking about what could happen down the road.

If there’s no point in trying something new, then why bother taking any action at all? If it sounds like a slippery slope toward complacency and inaction – yes!

But what if we keep our eyes on tomorrow and think about what might come instead of living for today, then enjoying the present moment?

Self-awareness can lead us down a more productive path toward enjoying life now which is living in the present.
